A strong, detailed plan provides clear direction and will help you to better accomplish your goals. All of your ideas, from beginning to end, will go into a written business plan. This will help to see your vision and make it become tangible. You will stay focused, on track and be able to better reach your goals and give you a better understanding of what you need to do to run a successful online business.

There are different types of business plans. We are specifically going to be discussing and Online Business Plan.

Steps For Your Business Plan

1. Your Idea.

The first step is deciding on what type of business you want to have online. What are your selling or promoting? No matter what you do online it all comes down to choosing a niche.

examples:

Jewelry and Accessories

Clothing

Makeup and Accessories

Making Money

Baking

Crafting

Photography

Health and Fitness

The list goes on and your options are endless. You can literally turn idea or topic and turn it into a business. These are very broad niche’s, but you can get very specific within your niche. For example: With clothing you can break it down, kids clothes, men clothes, women clothes, baby clothes. The more specific you are the better.

 

2. Platform.

Once you have your idea you need to decide where you will build your idea. Just like deciding on a building to buy. The platform you choose will depend on how you want your product delivered. Knowing how you want to present will help you choose a platform.

Examples:

Blogging-Wix, WordPress, Weebly, Squarespace

Online store-Etsy, Shopify

Online tutorials- WordPress

Vlogging-YouTube or any other video channel

Informational Website- WordPress, Wix, Weebly Squarespace

3. Your Audience

When writing your business plan think about who you want to target. This will help you to come up with an ideal marketing plan. Here are some examples of who your audience can be. Focusing on a specific group of people will also help you better in the search engines.

Examples:

College Students

Online Survey Takers

New Career Seekers

Photographers

Online shoppers

Ebay, Amazon sellers

Stay at home moms

Tweens

Teenagers

Middle aged men/women

 

3. Marketing

Advertising is key. Along with optimizing your website/store for the search engines, you need to have a good marketing plan. With an online business, you don’t need a whole lot of money starting out. Your marketing budget will grow as your business grows. Below are some examples of ways you can promote your business using paid advertising.

Facebook ads

PPC campaigns using Google ads and Bing ads

Instagram

You can also promote your business using free methods like keyword research, your social media personal page, also networking pages within your social media. This is a great way to meet people that may be interested in your product, but the key is to really be interested in your audience. People know when they are being sold to and they don’t want to feel like a dollar sign. Being able to connect with your audience is key.

4. Finalizing

Once you have your idea and you know the platform you will use, you can work on your site content or filling your store with products. Make sure to do this before you start your marketing campaign. You want your business to look nice and inviting, but it does not have to be perfect, this will come with time. The more you work at your business the better it will become and you will have kick butt site in no time!

If you want your business to be legit (legal) start working on how to obtain a business license for your area. You can go as far as becoming LLC or S corp. Whatever you want to do to brand your business is up to you.

Here is some motivation for you !

Anyone can do this, but you have to have a few things in order before you start and you can include these in your business plan. Create a section for you to help you stay motivated.

1. Have the right mindset- make the choice to succeed and don’t give up on yourself. What is your reason? make sure to always keep that reason in front of you.

2. Set priorities- if you are working or not currently working, you still need to set aside time each week for your business. Make a real work schedule for yourself. This will help you to put your business into prospective and make it real.

3. Create a routine- along with having a work schedule, set clear tasks. Plan your week by writing down exactly what you want to accomplish for that week.

These 3 things alone will help you to stay on track. I would write them down and make sure you can see them every day. Seeing is believing, if things are out of site they can easily fall out of your mind.
